Limerick is an area steeped in history. The origin of Limerick city dates back to the 9th century a site settled by the Vikings. Limerick City is known as “City of the Broken Treaty”, due to the treaty which was signed surrendering the city to William (III) of Orange. The treaty was signed on the Treaty Stone which can still be seen today.

Deep sea fishing from Kinsale.approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes drive.Day trips can be booked locally. There are also deep sea fishing and dolphin watching trips which can be arranged in the estuary of the Shannon.

For fly fishing for salmon and trout there is the local river Deel and day permits can be bought for a small charge in the town of Newcastlewest. There is also a stocked brown trout lake called Glasha lake close by.
